Neptune in Pisces - for Real This Time

Neptune enters Pisces today, February 3rd at 1:52 PM Eastern Time.  This mesmerizing planet went into Pisces last April, but after a retrograde period, went back into Aquarius.  Now, it will enter Pisces to stay until 2025.

Last year, we ran the following article describing what the Neptune in Pisces era might be like, and here we offer it again.  If you would like to read more about how this will affect your sign, please see your daily horoscope for Friday February 3, 2012, which are reprinted here, below the text of last year's article.  

Neptune is named for the god of the seas, and as such carries with it the mysterious limitlessness of the ocean water. Teeming with life, yet responsible for countless deaths; clear blue in some parts, cloudy and grey in others - the water that covers the planet holds secrets and makes our grasp on reality feel at best, tenuous and murky. This planet has been in Aquarius since late 1999, so you can see it doesn't move from one sign to the next very often. So yes, this is a HUGE deal. This will not be the ultimate "arrival" of Neptune in Pisces, though. This mystical planet will stay in Pisces through early August, then go back into Aquarius again until February 3 2012, when it will enter Pisces to stay for the next several years. The sign of Pisces is at the end of the zodiac, making it highly evolved in many ways. It is extremely spiritual and philanthropic; yet it is also very deceiving and to some extent, sinister. Like Neptune, Pisces can "fool" us into thinking there is a difference between reality and the unreality it wants us to escape to. Most of the time, we are merely making a run back and forth between our true selves and our "dark sides", the antithesis of all the things we think we're doing when we're being "good". Neptune represents the hapless drunk and drug addict as well as the accomplished, inspired artist and the spiritual master. It's all about the ways we transcend our human-ness, and for at least an hour or so a day, live in a world where we live in a world we imagine. We can use it as an excuse to create our own hell, or channel it to design our own Nirvana.

That's the point that's important to remember about Neptune. Yes, we can "allow" it to bring us down into some sorry sort of addictive behavior, or we can invite it to elevate us to new levels of understanding. As with all matters in astrology, it's about being conscious of our behavior and modifying it so that we are acting in our own best interest. It's amazing how, once we become aware of astrology and the lessons it brings us, we can avoid self-undermining acts. Simply bringing them up into your immediate consciousness can allow you to see what unproductive behavior does to make your life more difficult. So, when you analyze the way you like to escape reality as Neptune moves into Pisces, ask if you're accomplishing anything by doing it. Neptune and Pisces have a sort of natural affinity, and some astrologers believe Neptune "rules" Pisces. Looking at the plan the ancients handed down regarding which planet is most closely affiliated with each sign, there is no room for planets we cannot see with the naked eye. The way Neptune and Pisces are affiliated is through their ability to blur the lines between reality and fantasy. Now that they will be together, from now until 2026 or so, we an only speculate as to how this will turn out in our world.

One way we can start to do this is by looking back at history. Let's look at some of the things that happened the last two times Neptune visited Pisces: 1685-1688: The Huguenot settlers arrived in America, the French & Indian War took place, the Quakers established the first anti-slavery tract, and the Salem Witch Trials took place. 1847-1862: The Gold Rush in the western US was raging, while Emerson, Hawthorne, Melville, Beecher-Stowe, Thoreau, Longfellow and Whitman brought American Literature into a golden age. Abraham Lincoln emerged, and the discovery of silver in Nevada opened new avenues there. At the end of the period, the Apache nation declared war on the US, and Jefferson Davis was elected President of the Confederacy.

Hmmm....so, it seems these two time periods have something in common. There's a whole lot of idealism, from religious bliss to Walden Pond,but then political differences arise because of said types of idealism, and then something ugly occurs. That's a bit of a relief, because it seems as though the periods don't start out so bad, and that's where we are now. Still, the ingredients are there., and we must be careful where we allow Neptune in Pisces to take us.  We have religious wars either breaking out or on the verge of it, and another item related to Neptune involved in the disputes between countries - Oil. Our hope, of course, is that the idealistic side of humankind will emerge in time to repair the rifts we have between us. Also, innovations can occur in the creative arena that allow the economy to grow in ways that may not seem essential, yet yield production and prosperity. The one thing we must not do is follow the Piscean path of victimhood. When we give up, we lose the sense of purpose that keeps us growing and evolving. And if anything, that would upset Neptune most of all. The biggest fear I have is that we will lose our grip on what "the truth" is. There are days when it feels as though we're wandering through the set of "Monty Python's Life of Brian," when all the prophets are spewing their predictions, and none of them sounds too positive. I don't really want to be one of those voices! Let's try to stay focused on the good things about humankind, so that even when there are crises, we can hang on to the one thing that could possibly be the only real thing there is - a blind faith that we are loved by a far greater power than ourselves, and we will be taken care of accordingly.

Meanwhile, my advice to you is...Tune Into Neptune!

We might all feel a bit like we’re under water by the end of this day, when Neptune, god of the seas, moves into Pisces, the sign of the oceans of emotion.  This isn’t a little flash in the pan.  Neptune will remain in Pisces until some time in 2025.  The truth is going to be hard to find, and even if we do see it, we may not recognize it.  The best remedy for us all is to find our spiritual basis and hold on to it, nurture it and allow it to guide us through the seas with the knowledge that a much higher and more competent power than ourselves is the one who’s really in charge.  Read for your sign to discover where you need to adjust your views and be more discerning about identifying the truth.

ARIES

You need to establish and/or intensify your connection to some sort of spiritual practice, contemplation, or meditation.  You will begin to have a rather consistent and overpowering connection with a world you might not really see, and come to realize it’s really there.

TAURUS

You will have to be careful about running off with the ideas of a group and forgetting about your own personal “truth.”  Although you could get involved a nice communal activity that feeds your spiritual needs, it’s important to ensure you still have your own autonomy and integrity.

GEMINI

Your professional life might undergo some surprising changes.  Trying to hold on to what you have will be futile, so try to learn to let go in the early stages.  You may get a chance to incorporate something more creative or artistic into your profession.  Reinvent yourself.

CANCER

The world of ideas will hold much fascination for you, but you should test out what you hear before you accept it as “truth.”  The tendency is to believe what sounds good to you, and others can take advantage of this.  Always think for yourself and use that amazingly powerful mind you have.

LEO

Your instincts could go a little “off” now, at least until you open up to let them operate on a whole new level.  A quantum leap in your “psychic ability” is possible if you can only get past your fears!  Find a mentor who can help you learn to trust another person – and yourself.

VIRGO

One-to-one relationships will hold a powerful fascination for you now, and you’ll have a lot to learn about how to deal with them.  You may decide to change your status, but be warned: you must investigate your suspicions before you know they are facts, and be aware enough to ensure no one is pulling the wool over your eyes.

LIBRA

If you feel a little less energetic than usual, it might be because you need to pay more attention to your body.  It’s easy for you to make a definite detachment that separates your mind and body, but that’s probably not the best thing for you.  Try doing a mind-body-spirit activity that improves your focus and revitalizes your body.

The way you see your home and family life may change a lot over the next several years, and you may begin to note the waves swelling already.  In fact, you could have a leak or an overflow in your bathroom or kitchen to deal with.  While you’re cleaning that up, consider where you can set up a space for you to connect with your spiritual center.

CAPRICORN

You’ve heard a lot lately about the possibility that communication might not go so well for you in times to come, and the time is here.  Machinery might not hum for you the way you expect either.  The point is that you have to learn how to wear other people’s shoes, and craft your way of conveying ideas so they’ll be able to walk with them.  It’s going to take a while, but the journey will be a gas.

AQUARIUS

Money could begin to be an issue for you, and the fact you don’t pay all that much attention to it could be the problem.  You’ll have to watch where you spend and how much you allocate, and become more aware of your connection to the material world.

PISCES

You might feel wonderful or you could feel totally disconnected from this earth.  Both could be true at any given time.  As long as you remain connected with what you know is “really” true, you will be fine.  A strong affirmation of your own spiritual nature is what you have to stand on, and that’s the firmest foundation there is.
