How will you fare when your feet are to the fire?

The sun entered Scorpio on Sunday October 23, 2011, beginning the period of the year when we "do or die."  If you know Scorpio people, you see what marvelous creatures they are.  They keep trying and striving, no matter how hard the world tries to keep them down.  The Scorpion, the traditional zodiac symbol for Scorpio, tells only part of this noble sign's story.  The Scorpion will be surrounded by fire, submit to being burned, and then emerge new, as the alchemists ' eagle, or more graphically, like the phoenix.

Scorpio is a water sign, but it's the kind of water that is stagnant and cluttered with the deadened material of flowers and leaves that have seen better days.  Scorpio allows this dead matter to fester and ferment, and then takes it to create things that are more magnificent than ever!  It takes great insight and confidence, two wonderful Scorpio traits, to see within the condition of death the potential of new life.  That is, in fact, exactly what becomes of the dead leaves and cold, stagnant water that surrounds us at this time of year.  They provide food for the soil that will come alive again in the spring.  Dead material does have its benefits.

Think of what we celebrate at this time of year - Halloween! This holiday is traditionally one where the spirit world is summoned, and in many cultures, honored.  It's also a time when we look for opportunities to scare and be scared.  What is it that we are afraid of?  Death.  Our mortality.  Once we realize that we are not simply mere mortals, that there is so much more to us - our own "spirit," then we can summon a limitless supply of courage and determiniation.  All the zombies, monsters, strange aliens and mummies there might be in our unconscious wellspring of fears don't scare us when we realize how eternal our being truly is.

Again, we can witness this process in the way the Scorpio person can evolve as a human being.  The secretive, jealous and possessive side of this ultra sensitive sign is what is shown when the Scorpio person hasn't yet yielded to the act of spiritual transformation.  Once this act is completed, though, the Scorpio person emerges as an earnest, honest and diligent worker and a tireless friend.  Scorpio people are also inspirational, motivating and deeply emotive.  And...they are the sexiest people in the zodiac.  After all, what is an orgasm if it isn't a "little death"?  We give ourselves over the transformative energies of the merging that occurs in love and sex.  Scorpio is never afraid to delve deeply into the unconscious.  In fact, these incisive people are always probing and pressing those they love to share more deeply and completely.

Like Scorpio, we are asked at this time of year to jump into the fire.  Once we give up the familiar and the comfortable, we can then see how something new can emerge, and how this fresh product can be even better than what we started with!  That's why we have to be our own personal best at this time of year.  Take on the challenge, strive to get as close to perfection as possible, and don't stop fighting for what you believe in!  Shed your skin and be more than who you are - be all that it's possible for you to be. This is the spirit of Scorpio.
